New Street, Gornal Wood
Although New Street is now totally residential, many of the householders would have traded from their own premises.
The narrow street was made up of terraced properties mainly occupied by miners, many of these properties still remain.

Nr.40 was split into six separate dwellings.

47. John Hale, insurance agent.
In 1911 Census he describes himself as a colliery carter at the Dock Colliery.
48. Mary Jukes (Mrs), beer retailer & Joseph Jukes, publican, - The Queens Head.
58. William Hughes, potato merchant.
In 1901 Census William Hughs at No.58 was described as brick burner and wife Rose was a greengrocer.
