1859 public notice on road stoppages.
"... certain buildings in the said last mentioned road [*], belonging to William Baron Ward, formerly known as Bennitts Warehouse, but now converted into and occupied as schools in connection with Lower Gornal Church"
* It is thought that this was a building in the southern section of what is now Hopyard Lane just off the Himley Road, noted as a school on a subsequent O/S map. However the connection may not have been with the Parish Church (St. James)
